JEAN T. WOOD
November 28, 1916 - February 3, 2009
Jean T. Wood passed away in Fountain Hills at the age of 92. She was born in Alton, Illinois. Jean graduated from the University of Colorado in 1938, and later did graduate work at the University of Colorado, Claremont Graduate University, UCLA and San Diego University. She moved to San Diego in 1942. In 1984 she moved to Scottsdale where she resided until a few months ago when she moved to Fountain Hills. When she first moved to San Diego in 1942 she was employed as an instructor at the Ryan School of Aeronautics. Between 1943 and 1960 she worked as a teacher and administrator in the San Diego City School District. She was a Vice Principal at Point Loma High School from 1952 and 1960. From 1962 until her retirement in 1977 she was the head counselor at the Centre City Adult School in the community college district.
She was active in San Diego in the San Diego Women's Club, the La Jolla Woman's Club, the Linares Chapter of the DAR (Regent 1982-1984) the La Jolla DAR, the American Association of University Women, the California Association of Library Trustees and Commissioners, the Board of Commissioners of the San Diego Public Library, the Republican Women's Club and the Soledad Club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She was also active in Scottsdale in the Grand Canyon Chapter of DAR, the Colonial Dames XVII Century, president of the Paradise Republican Women's Club in 1987, president of the Friends of the Valley 1987-1989 and the Western Greeters. She was a member of the Valley Presbyterian Church. Jean is the widow of John W. Wood, who for many years was a supervisor in the San Diego Park and Recreation Department. He passed away in 1976. She is survived by her brother, James R. Taggart of Scottsdale, two nieces and one nephew. The family requests donations to the San Diego Public Library.
HELEN HAGAN
July 20, 1920 - January 6, 2009
Helen (Schaeffer) Hagan, 88, passed away in Scottsdale. She was born in Wichita, Kansas and after marrying George Hagan lived in Kansas, Oklahoma and California before moving to the Scottsdale /Paradise Valley in 1966. Helen immediately fell in love with the climate and the people.
Helen started a successful career in real estate in 1968, later becoming a Broker. She owned El Dorado Realty in Scottsdale for a number of years before retiring. Helen's artistic talents led her to drawing and working with clay. She and her sister, Marge, have created many beautiful and unique pieces of pottery. Helen loved attending the Republican Women's Club meetings.
Helen is survived by her sister, Marge; her son, Ron; four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. The family suggests donations in memory of Helen go to the Alzheimer's Association.
